The Master of Distance Education program at UMUC has had a significant number of International Students. The faculty and courses represent a diverse cross-section of cultures and perspectives. The ongoing partnership with the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, Germany further fuels ongoing research and collaboration between students and faculty.

- UMUC offers COMM 600 which is an excellent way to improve writing skills before taking graduate courses.
- UMUC offers an Assessment in Writing and English to give students a sense of where strengths and weaknesses.
- UMUC International English as a Second Language students must prove English proficiency via the Test of English as a Foreign Language
