Dr. Jill Fresen
I have always had two passions in life: teaching and computers! My undergraduate degrees specialised in Mathematics teaching, when this was a newly created formal field of study at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. I started my career as a Mathematics teacher and lecturer, and then spent some time working as a computer programmer, both in higher education and the corporate world. I am lucky enough to be able to combine my two passions, and have been involved in computer-based education (as it was called in the past) for 25 years.
I completed the M.Ed (Computer-Assisted Education) programme at the University of Pretoria, South Africa during the 1990s. This programme has a strong 'family' and community ethos, similar to that of the MDE. I then went on to complete the PhD (Computer-Integrated Education). My 2005 thesis is entitled “Quality assurance practice in online (web-supported) learning in higher education: An exploratory study” (available at http://upetd.up.ac.za/thesis/available/etd-02172005-134301/)
From 2000-2009 I worked as a Project Manager (E-education) in the Department for Education Innovation at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. I have recently joined Oxford University, England, as a Senior Learning Technologist. I am enjoying exploring the historic university and wonderful city of Oxford. Welcome to this class - I wish you success and fulfillment in your studies.
